Springfield teen crashes stolen car into pole

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. -- An 18-year-old man crashed a stolen truck into a power pole Thursday night while he was trying to evade police in Springfield.
Officials at the Springfield Police department said that the driver, later identified as Ricky Emery Meyer, was driving in Springfield when he committed a traffic violation at the intersection of 19th and Q streets.
A patrol officer in the area made a U-turn and followed him, attempting to pull him over. Meyer sped off, crashing the truck head-on into a utility pole two blocks down the road. He fled the scene on foot.
About two hours later family members of Meyer called police, informing them that he had come home. Police came out to the residence and arrested him.
Meyer was booked at Lane County Jail on various charges, including eluding police, possession of a stolen vehicle and reckless driving and endangering.
Police later found that the truck belonged to Meyer's uncle.
Prison is a win-win for this young man;
He can trade smokes for even more cool face and neck tats....awesome
He will also learn how to follow rules, in teachings from both the guards as well as other inmates..annnnd.. serving as the "love muffin" of his celly....good times.
Tats on the neck like that scream gang affiliation!!! Yeah, he is heading in the wrong direction...sad!!!
@UsaidWHAT It's really hard to pay $100s of dollars for tatoos and also afford a car and insurance and licenses and stuff. The taxpayers should be required to donate to at least keep his tats up to date with his buds. How else can he have proper self-esteem now that he isn't getting the all-important esteem from his high school educators?
He only turned himself in because of what his uncle had to say about him totalling his truck.
Ohhh, he looks like he was crying? Poor little derelict. Hope he gets a chance to really "learn" from his mistake....like doing some prison time.
Â
 @XLRG You know you're a little over the top- he doesn't need to do prison time-he needs to do community service and probation......now if he gets into more serious trouble -then maybe prison time is needed.Â
 @LifeisGOOD007 You want people to do community service and probation for felonies? =/ Seriously?
 @LifeisGOOD007 So that's a yes then? =/ Nevermind that felonies are supposed to carry a year or more in prison? Or should auto theft and eluding police by vehicle just be misdemeanors? Or is it just that you personally feel that an 18-year-old should get a break?
I stand by my comment---
