Springfield weighs upgrade to City Hall entry

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. - The front of City Hall could have a much different look by late next year.

The City Council on Monday night will take a look at new designs and upgrades to the City Hall plaza and entryway.

The stairwell and library entry to City Hall would be turned into the main entrance.

Work on the project could begin next year.

"We're looking at about $60,000," said Courtney Griesel with the City of Springfield. "We have assembled funding through a number of sources including grant funding. We could begin as soon as spring and be in construction this summer."

More seating outdoors and information displays on city government would be part of the upgrade.

The city is also looking at plans to buy and develop the Mill Plaza area near Pioneer Parkway West.

Officials want to build it into new office and retail space.
