Springfield woman dies in rollover crash on River Road

JUNCTION CITY, Ore. -- A woman died in a single-vehicle crash Thursday night when she rolled her SUV while driving on River Road near Brown's Landing, the Lane County Sheriff's Office said.
At around 8:45 p.m. Thursday the sheriff's office responded to the single-vehicle crash on River Road near Brown's Landing State Park (east of Junction City).
Officers arrived to find that a dark blue Ford Explorer had rolled multiple times, coming to a stop in the middle of the road. During the crash the vehicle ran into a power pole, breaking it off at its base and causing power outages in the area.
Responding medics confirmed that the lone occupant, a Springfield woman in her 20's, was dead at the scene.
Crash investigators determined that the woman, later identified as Morgan taraMarie Smither, 26 of Springfield, lost control of her SUV in a slight curve on River Road. The Ford Explorer left the roadway and hit the power pole, sending the SUV into a roll.
Just before the reported crash the sheriff's office received calls about a vehicle speeding and passing multiple cars on River Road.
Officials think that her rate of speed was a factor, adding that there is no indication that alcohol contributed to the crash. The woman was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
Emergency crews closed down River Road for nearly 4 hours while they cleared the wreckage. The sheriff's office said that LifeFlight, Junction City medics and Lane Rural Fire Department were all called out to the scene.
after talking to friend about this we all wonder what set her off to drive that fast?family emergency ?
@censoredirawoody It's a LONG 5.5 mile, boring, stretch of 2 lane 55 MPH zone that has claimed many lives over the years. Sadly short of lowering the speed limit (as if people would obey that) the only other real solution would be to install stop lights like they have on HWY 99. This would force traffic to come to a stop and start up again.
We really need more traffic enforcement in this area, they way people drive around here is way too dangerous.
We saw this wreck it was near our residence and it was very terrible. But i agree with censoredirawoody it did not need to happen. We almost got killed in our own driveway and lost our puppy because people don't care, speed and don't pay attention to their driving or to others! People drive way too fast out here nor does the area get patrolled. It is very sad and i feel for her family and her baby. Can't even imagine their grief. :(
according to her facebook page it looks like she has a 6mo old son? Does anyone know if he was breastfeeding? If so and if the family is interested i have some extra of mine that i would love to donate for him! Sorry if this seems weird but i am just trying to help!
@Angela My best friend has been looking for someone willing to donate she has a newborn and has a disorder called tubular breast that causes a woman to not get any milk. If you are interested email me at stephanie.tennille@gmail.com
