State Police: Eugene man drove wrong way on I-5

CANYONVILLE, Ore. -- Oregon State Police arrested a Eugene man Wednesday morning, charging him with driving the wrong way down Interstate 5.

Just after 5:00 a.m., numerous people began reporting that a dark colored Toyota Paseo was driving southbound in the northbound lanes.

Callers told state police that the vehicle was stopping intermittently in the traffic lanes and on the shoulder.

State police, Douglas County Sheriff's deputies and Myrtle Creek police dispatched officers to check the freeway and find the vehicle.

Just before 6:00 am, a trooper found the vehicle stopped near milepost 95.

State police say they arrested the driver, Daniel A. Paull, 42, of Eugene, and charged him with Reckless Driving.

He was transported to the Douglas County Jail where he was booked and later released.

Authorities say there was no evidence of alcohol or drugs involved, but Paull did appear to be disoriented.
