EUGENE, Ore. - Thousands of customers in the southern Willamette Valley lost power as thunderstorms swept across the region Thursday.

But the cable and Internet outage in Albany?

That was a crew installing a drainage pipe in a field between Corvallis and Albany, Comcast said.

Call. Before. You. Dig. Dig?

For tje more than 7,100 Pacific Power customers in Sweet Home, Lebanon, Brownsville, Crawfordsville and Foster, no amount of calling could have helped.

It wasn't human error but powerful storms that likely caused a widespread power outage.

The storm dumped 3/4 of an inch of rain within minutes on Lebanon and the surrounding area, according the the National Weather Service.

The utility expected power to be restored by 6:30 p.m.

Comcast said most of its Albany customers had service restored as of 4:40 p.m.

That outage begs this reminder: Call before you dig. It's 811. And it's the law.
