EUGENE, Ore. - Has this summer been hotter than usual?

"After digging through some data," the National Weather Service in Portland said Friday, "the answer to this question is a resounding yes.

So far, 2014 has tied 1990 as the warmest summer on record in Eugene.

This summer has been the hottest on record for Portland and Salem.

"That said, hot afternoons have not necessarily been the problem," forecasters report. "It is the unusually warm overnight low temperatures which have driven the summer of 2014 to be one of the warmest on record in terms of overall average temperatures."

So if you've had some sleepless summer nights, you're not alone.

"For those who lack air conditioning, this has made this summer exceptionally uncomfortable as homes have not been able to cool off overnight as they do during a more typical Portland or Eugene area summer," the Weather Service said.

The first full day of summer this year was June 22. The figures below represent summer 2014 through August 14.
