REEDSPORT, Ore. - An armed man suffered a gunshot wound in an exchange of gunfire with police Thursday, Oregon State Police said.
The suspect was shot at least once and taken to the local hospital. His identity and condition are not yet known.
"The suspect was transported with injuries and is currently being treated at the Lower Umpqua Hospital here in Reedsport," Lt. Steve Mitchell with Oregon State Police said at the scene.
None of the officers involved were injured, state police said.
The shooting happened during the noon hour at Holly Knolls Mobile Home Park.
Neighbors said they didn't know anything was happening until they heard the gun fire while children were playing outside.
"Next thing you know, I heard gun shots," said neighbor Cathy Strowbridge. "I heard about 15 gunshots."
State police said personnel from the Reedsport Police Department and Douglas County Sheriff's Office responded to a reported disturbance at the park around 12:30 p.m. Thursday.
After arrival, an armed adult male suspect confronted officers, police said.
Shots were exchanged between the man and law enforcement. The suspect was shot at least once and injured. He was transported to Lower Umpqua Hospital for treatment of unknown injuries.
Other information, including names of law enforcement officers or the suspect, have not yet been released by the Douglas County district attorney.
