Homes shake as residents report explosion

SUTHERLIN, Ore. -- Reports have come in from all over town about an explosion sound that residents say shook houses.

"I've been in thunderstorms, tornadoes and hurricanes," said John Bass of Melqua, "and that right there was an explosion."

"I was sitting on my couch and I felt the house shake and a loud boom with it, so I looked out the window to see if a semi had wrecked," said Kayla Moore of Sutherlin.

No injuries or damage has been reported.

Police in Sutherlin say reports came in from all over town, but no source has been found.

"I was on the east end of town and it was a loud explosion type boom that shook my patrol car," said Sgt. Vaughn Rains of the Sutherlin Police Department. "It felt like an explosion, and it didn't echo throughout the valley like thunder."

While some people are speculating it was thunder, some residents reported seeing smoke near the Cooper Creek area.
