'We are very excited about the unveiling of this book'
SWEET HOME, Ore. - A new book telling the history of the area in photos and captions will be unveiled Saturday in a special program at the Senior Center.
The Sweet Home Genealogy Book Committee just finished "Sweet Home, A History in Pictures," said Terri Lanini, who chairs the Sweet Home Genealogical Society.
More than 1,400 photos pack the pages of the hardback book, divided into six chapters: Kalapuya Indians, Pioneer Families, Sweet Home Old & New, Neighboring Towns, Logging & Sawmills and Honoring Our Military.
They photos go back to the late 1800s. In addition to Sweet Home, the book includes photos from Cascadia, Crawfordsville, Foster, Holley, Liberty, Pleasant Valley and Sodaville.
"We have had wonderful community support and are very excited about the unveiling of this book," Lanini said. "We are proud of the fact that we have had the book published in Oregon, and bound in Oregon. We could have sent it away cheaper, but we are firm believers on keeping it local."
The open house Saturday, Dec. 10, at the Senior Center, 880 18th Ave. in Sweet Home, runs from 11 to 5, with entertainment starting at 1 p.m.
