SPRINGFIELD, Ore. - Summer holidays and BBQs, like peanut butter and jelly, just seem to make sense. So there is no doubt that quite a few people will be out to tame the flame this Labor Day Weekend.
Out at VFW Post 3965 in Springfield it is all about the chicken. Members at the post have been firing up the grill for 36 years. Using a secret blend of seasonings and a not so secret technique to keeping the meat moist.
"We just keep buttering," says Post Commander Richard Eubank, "butter all the way."
It may not be the most healthy or diet friendly way of avoiding dry chicken, but Eubank has a solution for that too.
"If you are on a diet you can eat all the chicken you want," explains Eubank, "You just can't swallow it."
Tasty tips aside, the cookout is one of 3 fundraisers the Springfield post puts on each year. Fundraisers that serve as a main source of income. So they continue to cook each year, supporting our troops and taking care of their own.
Eubank says, "Taking care of our veterans is in our hearts because all of us have served.
The cookout is Saturday, Sunday and Monday at 53rd and Main Street in Springfield.
