COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. - Buster's Main Street Cafe is located at 811 East Main Street, inside a 100-year-old hotel. The same hotel that Buster Keaton stayed in while filming The General in Cottage Grove. Hence the name Buster's.
Just in case historic value and celebrity themes weren't enough, owner Paul Tucco also decided to start one of the largest soda collections I've ever seen. The original goal was to start a root beer store featuring anything and everything root beer related, but the soda collection continued expanding. Before long they ended up with around 200 different kinds of pop. Bottles shipped in from all over the state as well as the country. Tucco is also working on an impressive collection of beer and wine.
If you can't find anything to wet your whistle at Buster's you're probably not thirsty, but If you are not into drinking soda the chef has you covered. He's using it in some of the creative concoctions he's whipping up in the kitchen.
For the segment Chef Jackson Hune put together Orange Cream Stuffed French Toast with Candied Bacon. The French Toast batter was made with Crater Lake Orange Cream Soda and made for a nice light piece of toast. Stuffed with an orange frosting and topped with the candied bacon it was a treat for sure.
The dish was a little rich, and that's okay. It was perfect for sharing with my Taste Bud Mckenzie. Her and her mom have been Facebook followers and when I saw pictures of her sporting the Tasty Tuesday fedora I knew we needed to get her on the segment.
