Teachers team up with McDonald's to raise money
SPRINGFIELD, Ore. - Teachers from Thurston Elementary School traded in their chalkboards for the shake machine Wednesday night.
The teachers got behind the counter at the McDonald's on Main Street to prep McFlurrys, take orders and greet customers as part of a fundraiser for the school.
Lots of students and their families showed up. The line went out the door.
"We have a wonderful community of support around Thurston. It's exciting," said Apryl Smith, a 4th-grade teacher at Thurston Elementary. "The kids love seeing us in a different setting, and it's wonderful to see families out in support of their students and our school."
The McDonald's franchise donated 30 percent of the profits to Thurston Elementary School.
Teachers said the money goes towards their "positive behavior support system," a program that finds different ways of rewarding students for their positive behavior.
Nice to have corporate support? Would be nice if they were promoting it with a HEALTHY item not this...Fruit Smoothies would have been a better choice something that is not full of fat and calories. Too many of our kids are over weight and not taught good eating habits. This is not helping that at all.
I am all for schools and corporate world working together to help improve our childrens education. That said, I find it ironic and hilarious that while school districts in this county are banning chocolate milk (158 calories) from school cafeterias the teachers are out there selling McFlurries (500-700 calories). Is it really the health of our children that is motivating district decisions?
@Twistthewrist It's called "Money", and agenda driven hypocrisy. Values can be bought easily in this day and age of no truth and no honor.
