Trailer full of bikes for kid safety program stolen
EUGENE, Ore. - A trailer with a safety education program's fleet of bicycles inside disappeared from a west Eugene school over the weekend.
The large white unlicensed cargo trailer with the bikes inside was parked in the back of Prairie Mountain School on Royal Avenue.
The trailer was last seen Saturday at about noon.
A church group at the school said they didn't see the trailer there on Sunday morning at 6:30 a.m.
The City of Eugene Bike Safety Instructor who arrived at the school early Monday morning saw that the trailer was gone and reported it the program supervisor.
The Bike Friday bikes, valued at $32,000, are owned by the Eugene School District 4J and were to be used in the Safe Routes to School Bike Safety Education program, taught by the staff from the City of Eugene River House Outdoor program.
The City of Eugene Outdoor Program recently received a grant that would have enabled the program to teach bike safety to more than 1,000 students over the next two years.
Anyone who observes the bicycles or trailer is asked to contact the non-emergency police number at (541) 682-5111 (press 1 at each option to be connected with police dispatch).
If you believe you may have information about the theft you are asked to call the Eugene Police Department tip line at (541) 682-8888.
I'd check Springfield it's the stolen bike Capital of the State ....Just saying ...thats where my bike went i'll bet=((
House Bill 2750 IN Illinois is the only state that has tried to fix this problem....but you can avoid this by registering your trailer in another state. I did it..
   (k) If the application refers to a homemade trailer, (i) it must be accompanied by the appropriate documentation regarding the source of materials used in the construction of the trailer, as required by the Secretary of State, (ii) the trailer must be inspected by a Secretary of State investigator, as described in Section 2-115 of this Code, prior to the issuance of the title, and (iii) upon approval of the Secretary of State, the trailer must have a vehicle identification number, as provided by the Secretary of State, stamped or riveted to the frame.
Don't believe me....THE CROOKS ALL KNOW ...BUT SOMEHOW the cops don't?

Guess what? Oregon is just as incompetent as Washington State....YOU HAVE NO REGISTRATION FOR TRAILERS!!!Â
Wow.....total negligence. We now have 15 States that have no registraion for a stolen trailer!!!!!
Â
A light trailer is any trailer having a loaded weight of 8,000 pounds or less, except trailers for hire (for rent), recreational trailers, special use trailers and fixed loads. Light trailers may include boat trailers or horse trailers. For information on how to register a for-rent trailer, contact DMV.  Note: You do not have to register a light trailer (which includes a utility, boat, or horse trailer) or obtain a trip permit to operate it on the road if the trailer, plus the heaviest load carried, weighs 1,800 pounds or less. However, you may wish to obtain a title for your trailer because most law enforcement agencies and insurance companies want to see proof of ownership if it is ever stolen. All trailers used on the road must be equipped to meet safety standards; see ODOT's Vehicle Equipment and Safety page for more information.
I will state the truth...if you want to hear it.....YOU WILL NEVER FIND THE TRAILER....IT WAS NEVER REGISTERED! Also all trailers under 8,000 GVWR in Washington State is NEVER REGISTERED! wHAT IS THE LAW IN Oregon?
You are not going to find it!!!! it is gone....how can you find it when it was never registered? The large white unlicensed cargo trailer with the bikes inside was parked in the back of Prairie Mountain School on Royal Avenue.

OPP notes increase of insurance frauds involving 'homemade' trailers, marina chop shops and ATVs TEXT SIZE Â 2011-07-27
Car theft may be grabbing headlines these days, but frauds involving other types of vehicles have emerged recently on the radar screens of Ontario police. These include insured âhomemade' trailers, watercraft and all-terrain vehicles (ATVs). Sergeant Stephen Boyd of the Ontario Provincial Police's organized crime enforcement bureau discussed these and other emerging fraud trends at the ISB Canada education series seminar, Combat Auto Fraud, held in London, Ontario on July 26. "Homemade trailers, this is probably the hottest thing going on right now in the province [of Ontario]," said Boyd. "Do you know how many how many homemade trailers are registered in the province each year? We have had over 400,000 homemade trailers [registered] in Ontario over the last five years. "All of these trailers are âhomemade.' Do they look homemade?" Boyd's rhetorical question accompanied a slide presentation of âhomemade' trailers, some of which were fully enclosed - and clearly commercially manufactured - trailers. He noted people obtain licenses for the trailers, obtain insurance for them, report them stolen and then re-register for a new homemade trailer license. "We've lost 11,000 already in our jurisdiction [in 2011]," Boyd noted, adding that up to $300,000 to $400,000 worth of other property can easily go missing along with the trailer. One trailer, for example, went missing along with an expensive watercraft. And speaking of watercraft, marina chop shops are coming into vogue. As in scams involving auto chop shops, boats are reported stolen, an insurance claim is made, and the âstolen' boat is actually carted to a marina, where the boat is stripped for parts that are re-sold. ATV thefts are also an emerging trend. "ATVs are the Number 1 stolen [item] in OPP jurisdictions" across the province, Boyd said. One group of thieves stole a number of ATVs, sold them, and then stole them from the buyers to whom they had just sold them. They proceeded to re-sell them a second time for $1,000 per ATV. "That was entrepreneurial," Boyd said caustically.
Do you understand that the United States Insurance Companies do not care? In fact in the United States we have 10 States with NO REGISTRATION for these trailers. WE have a solution a solution that nobody in Government and the Insurance Industry wants to happen. It is called the NATIONAL UTILITY TRAILER REGISTRY...where we all agree to have a unified vin number system and no more homemade registration of trailers. In fact we show people how to do it....in order to get you to wake up. www.dangeroustrailers.org If you get it...why is Ray LaHood and the United States Government along with State Senator Webb, State Senator Warner decided to prevent us from getting traction? You have a company right in Ontario who has a solution R-Secur-T!!! Insurance Companies that have decided to stop our cause...Erie, State Farm, Farmers, Geico, Travelers...they don't care about your stolen property...we do!!!
5 Years Ago I gave this info to the FBI.....and they have done nothing...even the insurance companies know and they do nothing...so we decided to show you how easy it is......to hope to get action and still nobody cares...see this..

ANDERSON â A year has passed since a detached utility trailer caused a crash on Interstate 85 in Anderson County that killed the parents of two young children.
The driver who was towing the trailer that came loose has yet to step forward to take responsibility for causing the multi-vehicle accident. Because the trailer was unlicensed, investigators had no way to identify its owners.
Your Government has made it so easy to steal these trailers that even a CAVEMAN CAN DO IT....
I sent this to your Governor over a year ago...
One popular scam is to buy a manufactured trailer, insure it, then remove the VIN and report it as stolen. Re-branding it as a homemade trailer with a new license plate can be as simple as filing bogus paperwork with another state.
Melancon did this recently to prove his point. He applied from Virginia for a Maine trailer license with a fabricated VIN (ST467OL499EN17I99AM). For a $50 fee, he received his license plate in the mail with official documentation. Apparently no one noticed the message hidden in the VIN if you remove the numbers: STOLEN I AM.
We know why!!!! Washington State has no registration for your stolen trailer...When you have 14 States that have no registration for stolen trailers how do you find them? We have the Answers and Washington State is the Largest Helper of Stolen Trailers on The West Coast. go to www.dangeroustrailers.org and wake up.
It really is a tragedy, and I hope the ones who did it are proud of themselves for taking something away from LITTLE KIDS! I also hope they are caught and actually punished for this, but I think that is expecting too much from the system. How much do the bikes cost, apiece, I wonder. Maybe generous people could buy one each to re-supply the lost bikes.
A simple padlock would have prevented the trailer from being stolen, is extremely difficult to cut even with a bolt cutter and costs about $10. The story doesnât say anything about if it was attached to a vehicle, just sitting there, locked, unlocked, gated school, or much of anything. A bit more information would be nice.....
@angelgabe Now that Eugene SRTS has given you a link to more details, no doubt you have learned that news articles NEVER have the complete story; they always summarize what KVAL or whoever thinks is newsworthy. After you have read a few more stories, especially if you ever have actual knowledge of a 'reporter's' alleged 'facts' you will learn that listening to someone who once went to a J-school is not the way to learn what really happened.Â
@hewhoo  @angelgabe After going to the link provided, and reading, unfortunately, except for several photos, the article gave absolutely NO NEW INFORMATION (except for a few other items stolen) and I have no idea where the information regarding the locks came from as it wasnât in the article I read.
@angelgabe Eugene SRTS said there was a $40 lock and two 'puck locks' (whatever they are). You insinuated there wasn't even a $10 lock; afraid to admit you shot your mouth off?Â
@angelgabe The trailer had a large hitch lock (about $40) as well as two "puck  locks" on the back door and a locked side door. It was sitting in the school parking lot not attached to another vehicle.More information here: http://eugenesrts.org/news/bike-education-fleet-stolenÂ
@angelgabe The trailer was sitting in the parking lot behind the school. We have a nice neighborhood right next to the school, but then it get's trashy really quick. Regardless, I hope they catch the tweakers that did this. Our school is already hurting bad enough, then they go and do this, jerks.
