Two dead after small plane crashes at Toledo paper mill

TOLEDO, Ore. -- Two people died and a third was injured Saturday afternoon when a small plane crashed in the parking lot of the Georgia-Pacific paper mill, Toledo Police said.

Officials said the small, single-engine plane was flying east out of Newport when it crashed at 4:20 p.m. Saturday in the Toledo paper mill's parking lot. According to the Federal Aviation Administration the plane was a homebuilt RV-10 plane.

The pilot, Douglas Nebert, 51, of Newport, was flying with his step-daughter, April Gleason, 34, and her 4-year-old daughter Zoey Wahl. The family was heading to Gleason's hometown of Seattle.

Both Douglas Nebert and his granddaughter, Zoey, were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.

Gleason was flown by air ambulance to Good Samaritan Hospital in Corvallis; officials haven’t released her condition.

The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board launched an investigation into the crash.
Officials will release the names of those involved in the crash once the families have been notified.
