Two confirmed dead in shooting near Bandon

BANDON, Ore. --Two people were found shot along Highway 101 near Bandon, Ore. Sunday night, and police detained three people connected to the shooting less than an hour later, Oregon State Police said.

Police arrived at the scene, just north of Highway 101's intersection with Seven Devils Road near Bandon to find two men lying near the roadway with apparent gunshot wounds. Initial information indicated that the two victims were shot at around 6 p.m. Sunday. 

Both of the men were identified as Myrtle Creek residents. One of the men, George Micheaux III, born in 1993 (approx. 19), was pronounced dead at the scene. The other victim was identified as Milton Chester Leach, born in 1942 (approx. 70), who was found alive with an apparent gunshot wound to his head.

Leach was first taken to Bay Area Hospital in Coos Bay before being transported by air ambulance to OHSU in Portland where he was considered to be in critical condition. OHSU Senior Communications Specialist Kathleen Gorman said  that Leach died in the hospital Monday morning. 

Less than an hour later police found the vehicle involved in the shooting from a witness description several miles north of the shooting scene, closer to Coos Bay.

Deputies with the Coos County Sheriff's Office identified fresh tracks in a gravel road and followed the tracks down a side road of the main drive to Belloni's Ranch. When they arrived at the vehicle they found three adult individuals. one male and two females. One of the women had a gunshot wound on her forearm. 

As they approached the vehicle the male suspect, later identified as Timothy Henson, fled into the surrounding wooded area. Deputies were able to capture Henson with the help of police officers that arrived as backup.

The Coos County Sheriff's Office said that they found three adults inside the vehicle,  All five people involved in the incident are believed to have been living together on a property in Myrtle Creek.

Information collected by detectives suggests that the two victims were inside the vehicle when an altercation broke out between the five occupants. At some point a shot was fired inside the vehicle which is believed to have caused the woman's gunshot injury. After the gun was discharged the driver stopped the vehicle. 

The investigation also indicates that both Micheaux and Leach were shot outside of the vehicle while it was stopped on Highway 101.

The man detained inside the vehicle was identified as Timothy Allen Henson, born in 1969. He was lodged at the Coos County Jail on multiple charges including murder, attempted murder and assault in the second degree (for wounding the female victim).

The Coos County District Attorney Paul Frasier said he expects that Henson will be arraigned sometime on Tuesday.
