UO Law hosts Supreme Court for death row arguments
In a handwritten letter, Gary Haugen is critical of death row and the costs associated with death penalty cases.

EUGENE, Ore. - Death row inmate Gary Haugen wants Oregon to execute him.

Governor John Kitzhaber has granted the twice-convicted murderer a reprieve.

Haugen doesn't want it and took the governor to court in an attempt to get the state to impose the death penalty on him.

The Oregon Supreme Court will hear oral arguments in the case of Haugen v. Kitzhaber during its annual visit to the University of Oregon School of Law.

The arguments will take place at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 14, in room 175 of the Knight Law Center, 1515 Agate St. in Eugene.

The proceedings are open to the public. Organizers expect a capacity crowd. An overflow room will be available.

Video of the proceedings will be available on the law school’s website later in the day.
