Warming centers open Thursday night
Major Thomas Egan froze to death on the streets of Eugene. His death inspired members of the community to organize warming shelters named in his honor.

EUGENE, Ore. - The Egan Warming Center plans to open five locations Thursday night to help people get off the streets or out of unheated homes and into a shelter.

The locations set to open Thursday night are:

  • First Christian Church - 1166 Oak Street, Eugene
  • Trinity United Methodist Church, 440 Maxwell, Eugene
  • Hosea Youth Services -  834 Monroe Street, Eugene (Youth Site)
  • Valley Covenant Church - 3636 W.18th St., Eugene (18th & Bailey Hill)
  • Ebbert Memorial Methodist Church-532 C Street, Springfield

The program has put volunteers on standby for Friday and Saturday nights in case cold weather persists.
