Whiteaker residents clean up the streets Sunday

EUGENE, Ore. - More than a hundred residents in Eugene's Whiteaker neighborhood took advantage of Sunday's pleasant weather to pick up litter in the streets.
Residents assembled at noon Sunday at Scobert Gardens Park for the fifth annual Great Whiteaker Spring Clean Up. The event was kicked off with a meeting of food and neighborhood announcements. Participants were then given one task - to pick up as much trash as possible.
Event organizers like Wayde Love said that the spring clean up is a great way to keep the streets clean while having fun at the same time.
"I think it's just good to do something, and (people) are willing to do something good if they have a little direction," Love said.
The super cleaning crew took to the streets from 1 to 5 p.m., scouring the streets and alleyways for trash. A post-clean event was held with music, food and a raffle for prizes donated by local businesses.
