EUGENE, Ore. - Whole Foods Market plans to open its ninth Oregon store location in Eugene in the first half of 2016.

The 33,750–square-foot store will be located at the corner of East Broadway Avenue and High Street. The owner of the property previously sought permission to build on top of rights-of-way on the property.

The Eugene store opening will employee about 150 people.

“We have long believed that Eugene was a wonderful place for Whole Foods Market because the community’s values mirror so much of what we hold important,” said Joe Rogoff, Regional President for Whole Foods Market in the Pacific Northwest.

Whole Foods Market announced signing a lease with Broadway & High LLC for the newest Oregon location during its quarterly earnings call on July 30, 2014.

Whole Foods Market was founded in 1980 in Austin, Texas. In fiscal year 2013, the company had sales of $12.9 billion and currently has more than 360 stores employing over 17,000 people in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom.
