Northbound traffic comes to a standstill on the Pit River Bridge on Interstate 5 in Shasta County, Calif., as a plume of smoke rises Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2012,from the Salt Creek Fire. US Forest Service representative Don Ferguson said crews aided by lighter winds made progress against the blaze overnight. Still, another 20 homes were added to the evacuation list.
