Woman dies after vehicle lands in Tenmile Creek
LAKESIDE, Ore. -- A Coos Bay woman is dead after a single vehicle accident Sunday evening left an SUV submerged in a creek in Lakeside.
Authorities from the Coos County Sheriff's office say deputies were called to Tenmile Creek in Lakeside just before 7:00 p.m., for a report of a vehicle that had entered the water at the south end of Park Avenue.
Officials say a 1990 Ford SUV left the road and traveled down a private boat launching area, becoming submerged in over eight feet of water.
A rescue diver from the Lakeside Fire Department found the vehicle and it's driver, Trudy A. Jansen, 58, of Coos Bay. Jansen was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Authorities say the investigation is ongoing, and no cause of death has been released at this point.
Trudy was an awesome person, a friend true and true. She will truely be missed by all. My condolences to her family. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.
@Shirley (Reed) Bacome Thank you Shirley, for your kind words.  She was my mother.Â
Perhaps the outcome could have been different had it not taken Lakeside Fire and Rescue just short of an hour to even launch the boat. They had major trouble launching the boat and the boat was actually on the ground at some point. Clearly, the Lakeside Fire and Rescue needs to spend a whole lot more time training for potential rescue scenarios. We overheard the team arguing, cursing and the scene felt like chaos at best. We do appreciate the efforts of our volunteer fire fighters, however they were in no shape to save anyone's lives last night.Â
