Jason Clifford Down is in police custody this morning at a Portland, Ore. hospital. He is a suspect from last night's fatal shooting in Silverton, Ore. where a woman was killed by "homicidal violence" on August 30.

SILVERTON, Ore. -- A woman who was killed Saturday afternoon in Silverton has been identified and a male suspect was located Sunday morning, Silverton police said.

Shots were fired just before 4 p.m. Saturday in the 200 block of Olson Rd off S Water St. Silverton Police located a woman who they say was killed by "homicidal violence."

The woman has been identified as 50-year-old Cassandra K. Wagner of Silverton.

A thorough search of the area was conducted by multiple agencies, but law enforcement couldn't find the suspect - Jason Clifford Down - on Saturday.

Down took himself to a local hospital around 6 a.m. Sunday. It wasn't clear if his injuries were related to the incident.

At  just after 8 a.m. Sunday, Down was flown via Life Flight to a Portland area hospital Down is not in custody at this point, but police are with him.

KATU learned Providence Benedictine Nursing Center in Mt. Angel, Ore., was placed on lock-down Saturday night because Wagner worked there.

The Marion County Homicide Assault Team is assisting with the investigation.
