BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — The history of America's highways was on display Saturday at the Kern County Fairgrounds - from pre-1949 vehicles fitted for today’s roads to classics from the '50s and '60s, to muscle cars spanning through the '70s.
The more than 2,000 vehicles were on hand this weekend at the 37th annual NSRA Western Street Rod Nationals going on at the Kern County Fairgrounds. Officials with the Western Street Rod Nationals expected about 20,000 people to visit the fairgrounds this weekend.
While most of the vehicles are from California, organizers said some have come from as far away as Texas and Arkansas.
This is the 27th year the national street rod association has held the event at the fairgrounds. The association, which holds 11 events each year, has more than 50,000 members across the country.
