Gun from battleship Missouri goes on display at San Francisco Bay
WW II Gun San Francisco
A 16-inch gun that was on the battleship USS Missouri, with the words "save" written on it, waits to be transported to a battery on a hilltop in the background near Sausalito, Calif., Monday, Oct. 1, 2012. The massive gun that was on the battleship when the Japanese surrendered at the end of World War II will soon be installed on a cliff at the entrance to San Francisco Bay. The 68-foot long, 236,000-pound gun will be refurbished and painted over the coming months and then displayed at the Battery Townsley fortification in the Marin Headlands. It will simulate one of two guns that protected the battery during World War II but have since been removed. (AP Photo/Eric Risberg)
