Tree falls on student at California college

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — A Bakersfield College student suffered minor to moderate injuries Thursday afternoon when an uprooted tree fell on her on campus.

The tree toppled during a period of high winds, though school spokeswoman Amber Chiang said the cause for the collapse was under investigation.

"We're thinking it was the wind," she added.

Chiang said the woman was sitting and studying under the tree when it fell over. The student was alert and talking when emergency workers took her to a hospital, Chiang said.

The woman's name was withheld.
