EUGENE, Ore. - Slugs usually prefer wet, slimy conditions.

"We slugs would prefer to do this late at night and in the middle of December," former Slug Queen Glo Gastropause told KVAL News. "As with everything in Eugene, we never do anything in the normal way."

The Slug Queen pageant crowded the park blocks Friday evening with music and delightful mayhem. | Photo Gallery of Slug Queen coronation | KVAL News report from Aug. 13

Contestants were judged on their outfits, talent and answers to questions from the judges.

"This is basically a beauty competition," Gastropause said, "where you take the beauty out and replace it with slug."

The event has been held annually since 1983. | DID YOU GO? Share your videos and photos on KVAL.com - and we'll show them on KVAL 13 TV News.
