One of these signs is not like the others

BOISE, Idaho (KBOI) - To get to the Woodland Ale Craft Brewery, take Front Street to the Craft Beer sign.

The craft beer sign?

Next to signs for I-84 and the airport, the big green and yellow sign mimics the style of directional road sign.

The Idaho Transportation Department has put a stop to the sign's detour.

"They sent us a letter," said brewery owner Dusty Schmidt said. "I called them back. My first question was, 'What took you so long?'

"They've been really great. They said they really actually like the sign. They thought it was clever, but rules are rules - and we totally understand."

State law is clear and says in part that no person shall display an imitation of a traffic-control device or signal that attempts to direct traffic near a highway.

The state gave the brewery a month to take the sign down.

Schmidt said most people liked the sign, but there were a few that didn't play along.

"There's a handful that think it's just dumb because it matches all the others," he said, "but I don't think they get it."
