In a promotion for the forthcoming film "Kick-Ass 2," BuzzFeed has rounded up a list of the coolest superheroes in the world. Unsurprisingly, Seattle's caped crusader, Phoenix Jones, is on the list. However, arch enemy and self-declared super-villain Rex Velvet is not happy with the list.
The list, which also includes Portland's Zetaman, celebrates real-life superheroes, who do things like thwart minor crimes and offer information to police officers. But these costumed individuals, who operate on their own and, often, outside of the law, aren't beloved by everyone. Jones has been arrested by the Seattle Police, and the agency has even received recommendations that they restrict superhero activity. Perhaps their biggest critics, however, are their nemesis, including Velvet.
In a Facebook post, Velvet asked that his followers take action:
ATTENTION CITIZENS: If you have any info regarding any of the following masked-nerds, consider this page your soapbox to voice your experiences/frustrations. Together we will crush the superzero movement and restore sanity within our communities.
Velvet, who calls himself "The People's Villain" isn't actually a bad guy; the mustachioed man has done a considerable amount of charity work, putting on events that benefit organizations like the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
The same day the list was released, Jones tweeted a photo of himself and the rest of the Rain City Superheroes at a premiere for the film.
Following his 2011 arrest, Jones was revealed to be father and husband Ben Fodor. Since that time, he has largely continued to make appearances in full costume.
