Police: Stolen 'Power Band' bracelet leads to robbery arrest

ROSEBURG, Ore. -- A Myrtle Creek man faces robbery charges, after Roseburg police were called to a grocery store to break up a fight. Turns out the 'fight' was with loss prevention staff at the store.

Just before 10:00 a.m. on Friday, Roseburg police were called to Sherm's Thunderbird for a report of three men physically fighting.

When officers arrived, they discovered that the fight was actually loss prevention staff trying to subdue a shoplifter. The man was identified as William Joshua Ward, 33, of Myrtle Creek.

Sherm's employees said that Ward tried to leave the store without paying for a 'Power Band' bracelet.

Loss prevention employees were eventually able to take him into the office, where police contacted and arrested him.

Ward was lodged in the Douglas County Jail on charges of third degree robbery, third degree theft and harassment.

His bail is set at $56,250.
