Teachers assign students to write down curse words

INDIANAPOLIS - A school lesson here made some parents and kids uncomfortable.

It wasn't about sex or evolution or other topics prone to controversy.

The lesson was about cursing. Teachers asked students to write down all the bad words they know.

Then the teachers read the words out loud and explained why they were offensive.

Teachers said it's a way to teach kids what not to say.

School officials stand by the unusual lesson plan because they say it allows teachers to gain control of the classroom.

The co-principal says in the past, this lesson has helped cut down on the amount of bad language students use.

At least one parent said her child was uncomfortable hearing the bad words in class, CNN reports.
