Eugene man sold $1 million in counterfeit software
By Associated PressPORTLAND, Ore. (AP) - A Eugene man has pleaded guilty to selling more than $1 million worth of counterfeit computer software. Jeremiah Mondello pleaded guilty to criminal copyright infringement, aggravated identity theft and mail fraud on Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Eugene. The 23-year-old Mondello faces up to 27 years in prison, a maximum fine of $500,000 and three years on probation. Federal prosecutors said Mondello held thousands of online auctions, using more than 40 fictitious names and online payment accounts to sell copies of counterfeit software. Mondello also admitted stealing identifying information to establish online payment accounts in the names of victims. |
