Crater Lake Pine Beetles
This Jan. 12, 2012 photo provided by Crater Lake National Park in Oregon shows a dead whitebark pine on the rim of the lake. Mountain pine beetles have become the leading cause of mortality for the pines, which occupy the highest elevations in the park. The beetles now kill more of the park's signature trees than a fungus from Eurasia known as white pine blister rust. (AP Photo/Crater Lake National Park, Jennifer Beck.)
