Ski resorts opening for season in Oregon

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Several Oregon ski areas will be open in time for Thanksgiving.

Timberline Ski Area on Mount Hood plans to open most of its lower mountain lifts on Wednesday. The Oregonian reports (http://is.gd/8vPzk1) that about a foot of snow fell there Monday night, bringing the base total to 27 inches. Several chairlifts are expected to operate through the holiday period if weather permits.

Mount Bachelor spokesman Andy Goggins says that ski area will open on Thanksgiving Day. He said Tuesday that a foot of snow has accumulated at the base in the past 24 hours and the mid-mountain base is 38 inches. The forecast calls for more snow this week at Mount Bachelor.

Mount Hood Meadows plans to open during Thanksgiving weekend on a day to be announced Wednesday.
