EUGENE, Ore. - An iconic Lane County landmark received a special tourism award.
Travel Lane County awarded the Heceta Head Lighthouse a tourism "destination award."
Lisa Lawton with Travel Lane County said the lighthouse attracts 800,000 visitors each year.
The lighthouse reopened last summer after a year-long refurbishing project, inside and out.
Oregon State Parks led the project to fix up the 1894 lighthouse.
"This is something that if we didn't have that massive public and private effort to make this restoration happen, it wouldn't have happened," Lawton said. "We could not imagine having Lane County without it."
The project cost $1.5 million, paid for mostly by federal grants.
