Protesters deploy inflatable pig in beef with Walmart

EUGENE, Ore. - Activists lined up next to a large inflatable pig and waved signs in protest Wednesday outside the West Eugene Walmart.
Mercy for Animals says Walmart supports unsafe animal practices, a charge the company denies.
They say they conducted an undercover investigation that revealed several abuses at one of walmart's main pork suppliers.
"We feel consumers have a right to know where their food comes from and how the animals are treated before they reach our plates so we can all make informed decisions," said Phil Letten from Mercy for Animals.
Letten said they're on a nationwide tour to let consumers know about the unsafe conditions of animals in some factory farms.
Walmart officials said the company does not tolerate the mistreatment of animals.
“This is a complicated issue and there are different points of view," said Dianna Gee with Walmart. "We currently offer gestation crate-free pork products in a number of stores across the U.S. and will continue our on-going discussions with suppliers, non-governmental organizations and food safety experts to increase that number.
“We hold our suppliers to the highest standards and do not tolerate animal mistreatment," Gee said. "We encourage customers interested in learning more about how grocers and restaurants source pork products to contact the National Pork Board at www.pork.org."
4 pigs tortures Walmart
I have been boycotting the chinese factory outlet for decades.
If you do not like wal mart, don't shop there.Â
@8203432 That is what I do - or don't do...I am boycotting wal mart. It is the best tool to use as a message. I also do not by Georgia pacific products - as long as a product is marked as a Georgia Pacific product because it is owned by Koch Industries one of the worst offenders in many areas from employees rights, environment and corruption within politics it self. Money is a very loud message without saying a word..just don't spend money on those that are working against our society and continue to make the millions off the backs of those treated as slaves.

WTH is gestation crate-free pork? Creepy.
It would be interesting to find out if any other stores in the Eugene/Springfield area buy from the same supplier. Are they saying the pork supplier sells only to Walmart and no other grocery stores?

Walmart is such an easy and convenient target. They do business with so many vendors, that one of them is bound to be doing something that offends the conscientious protester. They have retail and wholesale sites in so many places. The professional protester doesn't have to go very far to find a site. Most are probably on bus routes. When you need to take a break from marching around in a circle with a giant pig balloon, there is almost certainly a McDonalds or Burger King nearby to grab a bite. On the other hand, going to the actual site where the vendor is allegedly mistreating pigs before they stun them and cut them into little pieces might involve some serious travel and more expenses than can be covered with unemployment or welfare checks. I'm with sufferin'succotash. If you have a lot of free time and absolutely must protest something why don't you protest the way Walmart treats its employees?
mmmmm BACON....
Walmart has a very known history of using all types of companies that treat people and animals poorly. Why they bother to even say anything is beyond my realm of thinking, just makes them look worse.
i'm more concerned about how walmart treats its employees
@sufferin'succotash Why? Employees there seem happy enough working there. Are they not free to quit and go to work for another company if the want?
