EUGENE, Ore. -- Republican gubernatorial candidate Dennis Richardson made a stop at a barbecue and disk golf tournament hosted by the Lane County GOP.
Richardson hopes to take the seat from current Governor John Kitzhaber, who is running for his fourth term in November's election.
If elected, Richardson said he would work to bring down the state's unemployment rate while also fixing what he calls a broken health care system.
One key component to his platform is education, an area of trouble for Oregon.
“We're 47th,48th, 49th - depending on who you talk to - in the nation for graduation rates. We've got to change that. We need to offer our students a world class education,” said Richardson.
Debates for this year's gubernatorial elections begin mid-July.
