SPRINGFIELD, Ore. - The Springfield City Council voted 5-0 to censure Councilor Dave Ralston, a formal reprimand for the elected official accused of violating the terms of his diversion program after a DUI arrest in Springfield last year.

Ralston is scheduled to be back in court Thursday to face accusations that he violated the terms of his diversion program after he pleaded guilty to drinking and driving last year.

On Tuesday night, the City Council formally reprimanded Ralston for his conduct. At the time of his arrest, Ralston repeatedly called the chief of police.

Mayor Christine Lundberg read a statement during the council meeting calling for Ralston's censure. The move essentially says the Council disapproves of Ralston's behavior.

The Council cannot remove Ralston from office unless he is convicted of a felony, a city spokesperson said.

Ralston has repeatedly denied violating the terms of his diversion program.
