Student senate votes to decrease funding for Oregon band
EUGENE, Ore. - The student senate voted Thursday to decrease funding for the University of Oregon band that performs at football games and other events.
The Associated Students of the University of Oregon senate agreed to a 3-year decrease in funding for the band, from about $150,000 last year to $125,000 this year, said student Senator Lamar Wise.
The plan is contingent upon the band finding another source of funding to replace the revenue. If not, the measure is expected to come back to the senate for reconsideration, Wise said.
Wise said ASUO representatives plan to meet next week with the president's office and the athletic department to see if the would be willing to pick up some of the band budget.
Dumbasses.Â
When is the state going to demand that U of O and all other public universities start cutting administrative overhead? How much overhead is needed to run things such as the Extended Studies Program at PS, where Mike Burton was Vice Provost before being busted for faking expense reports so that he could take an 11 day holiday in Europe? Or The Center for Academic Multicultural Excellence, when the only way most people can get access to that department is if they're $50,000 in the hole for student loans? Or the dozens of other such departments who have great titles but are demanding ever higher budgets and students going deeper into debt?
Â
What the hell difference does it make if U of O has a band if the vast majority of Oregonians cannot attend their own flagship university because it's simply too expensive? At some point, even the most brain dead of us have to realize that the path to middle/upper class lifestyles by way of a college degree is a delusion, that it's a scam used in order to continue the massive increase of redundant and useless university overhead....
@calmplexx Sadly, it's not what you know; It's who you know and the price to get a degree is how the wealthy keep the Riff Raff out of their club.
@godless anarchist Man aint that the truth....
