Secretary of State on website hacking: 'We think it's a wake-up call'

EUGENE, Ore. - The State Police and the FBI are still investigating what happened last month to the Oregon Secretary of State's website.

Secretary of State Kate Brown said the campaign finance portion of the website was breached.

Candidate bank account information was among the data accessed.

Prior to her speech Wednesday at the University of Oregon Law School, Brown told reporters the system is running again but they need answers.

"We think it's a wake up call for not only my agency but other state agencies and local jurisdictions to make sure that we do everything we can to have the security in place that we need," she said.

Brown spoke to the law class about voter ID laws being considered in other states, laws she said would restrict voting rights to people of color and the low income.
