Group plans armed, walled community in Northern Idaho
BOISE, Idaho (KBOI) -- Marxists, socialists, liberals and establishment Republicans need not apply.
So says an unidentified group with a website which has details about The Citadel, a walled, planned community of up to 7,000 families to be built near St. Maries in Benewah County.
To live there, every able-bodied person 13 years or older is required to "demonstrate proficiency" in handguns and rifles, according to The Citadel's website.
And every able-bodied person "of age" within The Citadel must maintain a variant of the AR-15 semi-automatic rifle "with 1,000 rounds of ammo". (UpdateIs fortress city planned for North Idaho fact or fiction?)
Strange covenants, indeed, but The Citadel bills itself as a bastion of Jeffersonian liberty -- an armed, designated point of retreat when American society collapses. (Watch the Report >>>)
We wanted to call The Citadel and ask them about their plans for Northern Idaho but we couldn't find a phone number. And we're not the only journalists who are interested.
The Citadel's website says, after the Sandy Hook shootings, they've been contacted by a lot of reporters. But their website says "it's too early in the evolutionary process of the Citadel Project to accept these invitations" for interviews.
The Citadel's website says 20 mountain acres have already been purchased in Benewah County for the "first wave" of residents. But we could not independently confirm that.
And The Citadel also plans to build its own manufacturing plant -- for firearms.
We called community leaders in Benewah County for reaction but they have not yet returned our calls.

It's a great idea until FBI/BATFE attack it and burn it to the ground.  I wish them luck and God Speed.
I think it's great! We should encourage these compounds to go up in every state; they would collect all the survivalist gun nuts into one central location, kind of like the lymphatic system in the human body collects all the bad infected blood cells to filter them out of the healthy body. Go for it, gun nuts!
@Robbie Rainbow They can have their own country, it will be called dumb***kistan.
Unfortunately the more they fool with liberty, the more of this you will see. They can't help themselves the greed and power is like a drug.
Welcome to the kind of change Obama is bringing to our land.
If you don't like it move to another country with less government, I hear Somalia is lovely this time of year.
@RelaxThereIsNoGod Considering we're the ones with most of the guns, I don't think we'll be the ones to go anywhere. =P
