According to the Department of Agriculture, 1 in 7 Americans rely on the supplemental nutritional assistance program, commonly known as food stamps. The program cost the U.S. $80 billion last year. Last week a U.S. Senate committee approved over $4 billion dollars in cuts to the progam over the next 10 years. That worries Food for Lane County, which could see higher demand for its food bank services.
