Oregon star running back LaMichael James is on the cover of this week's Sports Illustrated, on newsstands Wednesday.

The Ducks, presently ranked No. 1 by the BCS, will likely advance to the national championship game against the No. 2 team if they finish the season strong.
James is the fifth Oregon football player to make the cover following Jeremiah Masoli and Jordan Holmes (Aug. 18, 2009), Jason Fife (Sept. 29, 2003) and Joey Harrington (Aug. 13, 2001).
The cover illustrates a story by senior writer Austin Murphy and Yahoo! Sports’ Dan Wetzel that makes the argument for a playoff in college football and features a proposed 16-team playoff (11 conference champs and five at-large teams) to end the 2010 season, in which Oregon is the top overall seed and would face Sunbelt champion Troy in the opening round.
Page three of the story features a no-so-absurdly-early look at a title game between Oregon and Auburn — the scoreboard of which, says SI.com senior writer Andy Staples, would resemble that of a basketball game.
Sports Illustrated had picked the Ducks to finish 8th in the college football preview issue.
