The south coast will play host to a pair of the USGA's Championships next week, the U.S. Amateur Public Links, and the Women's Amateur Public Links at Bandon Dunes.
It's the first time in history that both public links championships will be conducted jointly on Bandon's Old Macdonald and Bandon Trails.
Bill McCarthy, the USGA Director of the Amateur Public Links says, "156 players in each championship, from all over the country, and these two course are going be unlike anything they've ever seen, especially Old Mac. It's very rare in North America that we get to play links golf and the ground game, on firm fast, fescue conditions."
The Public Links Championships are open to amateur golfers who do not hold privileges at a country club or private course.
"The practice rounds are going to be very important for the folks coming out here, especially the vast majority of the country, we play soft courses, we play in the air, target golf. The creativity that's going to be required here is going to be terrific."
The championships begin June 27th in Bandon.
