EUGENE, Ore. -- The tenth-ranked Oregon Ducks and their fans spooked the USC Trojans on Saturday night, beating the Trojans 47-20 in front of a record crowd at Autzen Stadium.

The Ducks piled up 613 yards of offense against USC, and had their way against a steady but shaky Trojans' defense. Quarterback Jeremiah Masoli finished 19 of 31 passing for 221 yards and one touchdown, as well as rushing for 164 yards on 13 carries and another score. Running back LaMichael James ran for a career-high 183 yards and a touchdown, consistently splitting the gaps between USC's defensive lineman.

Freshman quarterback Matt Barkley said before Saturday's match-up that the crowd at Autzen wouldn't bother him. And even though Barkley had a decent game, finishing 21-38 for 187 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception, the Trojans' team as a whole never looked comfortable.

With ESPN's College Gameday in town, as well as on national television and with former Ducks quarterback Dennis Dixon in attendance, the Ducks didn't look intimidated facing off against the seven-time defending Pac-10 champions.

In the first quarter, the Trojans got on the board first with a field goal on their first drive, and they led 3-0 with less than nine minutes to go in the opening quarter.

The Ducks responded with a Morgan Flint field goal on their first drive to tie the game at three. Near the end of the quarter, Masoli ran it in from three yards out to put the Ducks up 10-3 after the first period.

The Trojans came right back, though, as Barkley hit reciever Ronald Johnson from three yards out to tie the game at ten a piece. The Ducks drove right down the field afterwards, and scored on a one yard run by running back Andre Crenshaw. The Ducks led 17-10 midway through the second quarter.

USC wouldn't quit, and with about four minutes left in the first half, Barkley hit receiver Damian Williams from four yards out to tie the game at 17 a piece. But with limited time left in the period, Masoli once again led the Ducks offense down the field for a touchdown, as Jemere Holland, a former Trojan, caught a seven yard touchdown pass from Masoli. The halftime score was 24-17 Oregon.

Unlike the second half, the Ducks dominated the Trojans on both sides of the ball. On the Ducks opening drive of the half, Flint made a field goal to extend Oregon's lead to 27-17.

USC marched down the field on their next drive to get within 27-20. But that's all USC could muster up the rest of the night.

LaMichael James ran one in from five yard out to put the Ducks' lead at 34-20, and the last play of the third period resulted in another Oregon touchdown, this time a three-yard run by Kenjon Barner.

The Ducks then added two short field goals by Flint in the fourth to push the Ducks' lead to 47-20, and the score would stay that way until the end, even when ecstatic Ducks fans rushed the field.

Oregon, now 7-1 overall and 5-0 in the Pac-10, play at Stanford next Saturday. USC, 6-2 and 3-2 in conference play, face off against Arizona State in Tempe.
