Great Golf Getaways: Makena

For those looking for the getaway of getaways, there's only one place--Makena.

"It's naturally Maui," says Makena head professional Erik Johnson.

Situated near the southwestern tip of the Island of Maui, Makena Golf Club serves up 18 rugged golf holes, with expansive views of the islands and surrounding area.

"When you look beyond the golf course, all you're really going to see is lava, kiave, views of the Pacific Ocean.  There's not a lot of visual noise to interrupt your day of golf.""It has a fabulous view to the ocean," says Michael Lee of Makena. "It's a very interesting, yet tough hole."

After opening in 1993, Makena quickly established itself as one of the premiere destinations in the islands.  With golf holes that are both beautiful, and challenging, it's a must visit for the more experienced--and the beginning golfer.

At the top of the property, the par three 12th, which features a view of Molokini Crater.

Johnson describes how to play the 12th:

"My goal here is to not get distracted by the views, and hit a shot to the center of the green."

The views, the weather, and the golf.  It's a trifecta that few other places on earth can match--nearly 365 days per year.
