After not coming to terms on a professional contract with the Colorado Rockies before Friday's MLB deadline, Aaron Jones had the opportunity to return to play ball for the Ducks, but he will not be back in an Oregon uniform. Instead he will be suiting up as a firefighter.

In a report by the Register-Guard, Oregon head coach George Horton confirmed that Jones is leaving the program to begin a career as a fireman.

The 18th round selection of the Rockies has two years of eligibility left but the 21-year-old from San Clemente, California has apparently chosen to move on.

The catcher/rightfielder was an offensive leader the past two seasosn for the Ducks who made it to the Super Regionals of the NCAA tournament, ultimately falling one game short of a trip to the College World Series.
