Alamo Bowl: KVAL Sports Predictions

Alamo Bowl: KVAL Sports Predictions »Play Video

The Alamo Bowl!  There is a lot at stake for the Beavers, who are vying for their third 10-win season in school history.  Time for PREDICTIONS.

Texas vs. Oregon State

Tom: Texas: 20 Oregon State: 33

Nick: Back into a bowl game for the first time since the horrid 2009 wind-blown game with BYU in Las Vegas, the Beavs are coming off the largest single-season turnaround in program history. (But Mike Riley can’t coach right?) Riley has made all of the right calls, so who can doubt him going back to Cody Vaz over Sean Mannion? The interception-bug has been too large again this season for Sean for coach to not worry about. Riley is 5-1 in bowl games during his combined 12 years at OSU, and I think he makes it 6-1. Texas: 24 Oregon State: 28

Dirk: Texas: 24 Oregon State: 30

Phil: In a bowl game like this, the team that wants to be there more usually ends up winning.  It seems to me like the Beavers are very excited to be playing in San Antonio, especially after missing out on the post season the past two years.  As for Texas, the Alamo Bowl isn't exactly what it had in mind. Losing four games in Longhorn country is like the end of the world, and not even the Mayans could have predicted this type of year for Texas.  Oregon State's turn around from 3-9 to 9-3 has been well documented, and for me, it all started with the defensive line as the Beavers rank 28th in the country in stopping the run.  That has been the big problem for Texas, which ranks 100th in the NCAA in stopping the run, giving up an average of 200 yards per game.  Texas native Storm Woods will have a big day running all over the Longhorns, including his former high school teammate Alex Okafor.  Plus Mike Riley is 5-1 in bowl games, proving that with extra time to prepare, he puts together a great game plan.  As long as the Beavers don't turn the ball over too many times, I think they cap off a great season with a big bowl victory.  Texas: 24 Oregon State: 31

The Standings

After nearly a month off, we are back at it.  Nick still has a one game lead, and that won’t change after this game.  The only thing that’s up for grabs is the bonus point.

1. Nick: 19-4 (22), 2. Tom: 18-5 (23.5), 3. Dirk: 18-5 (22), 4. Phil: 18-5 (19.5)
