CORVALLIS, Ore. – Beau Day went 4-for-4 and drove in two runs to send the sixth-ranked Oregon State baseball team to an 8-3 win over Utah Saturday afternoon at Goss Stadium.
Dylan Davis and Tyler Smith each had two RBI as well to help pace the Beavers to the series win over the Utes. Oregon State has now won its first four conference series for the second time in the last three seasons. It’s the third time under head coach Pat Casey as the Beavers’ 2006 club did it first.
“We struggled offensively on Friday but today was a different day,” Casey said. “We got contributions form the entire lineup, and when you couple that with Andrew (Moore’s start), it’s tough to beat.”
Day singled four times to pace the club offensively as Oregon State (27-6 overall, 9-2 Pac-12 Conference) had 13 hits as a team. It was easily a season-high for Day, who came into the game with two hits on the year.
His singles came in the second, fourth, fifth and seventh innings. He drove in a solo run during the Beavers’ four-run fifth and another in the seventh.
Tied at one after 3 ½ innings, the Beavers pushed ahead in the bottom half of the fourth when Smith doubled down the left field line, bringing in two. OSU, highlighted by a Davis double that also scored two, broke the game open with its four-run fifth. Kavin Keyes also singled in a run during the inning, and scored when Day singled up the middle.
Oregon State sent eight to the plate in the fifth.
The Utes (14-16, 4-10) managed solo runs in the fourth, sixth and seventh innings.
Andy Peterson had three hits in the win and Davis had two.
Moore picked up the win to improve to 7-1 this season. The right-hander made the start for the Beavers and worked 6 2/3 innings, scattering five hits and three runs while striking out five.
In four appearances at Goss Stadium this season, Moore is 3-1 with a 2.42 earned run average.
Dalton Carroll, meanwhile, was saddled with the loss for Utah. He worked four innings in a start, allowing eight hits and six runs. He dropped to 3-3 this season.
The clubs close out the three-game series Sunday at Goss Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 12:05 p.m. and live stats and live video can be found by visiting osubeavers.com.
