– The Oregon State women’s basketball team (14-7, 5-5 Pac-12) won the inaugural battle with the Colorado Buffaloes (15-6, 4-6 Pac-12), 65-45, to extend its winning streak to three on Thursday evening in Gill Coliseum in front of 1,159.

"Defensively, I thought this was a complete 40-minute game in which we made very few errors," head coach Scott Rueck said. "We even held them under 50 points. This was a great performance by our team and a great win.

We are starting to believe that we can be a good team, and our expectations are at that level. We have new hope when we realized that we could have a great year this year and can win now. I anticipate another good performance on Saturday."

Senior Earlysia Marchbanks (Salem, Ore.) was the Beavers’ leading scorer with 13 points and five rebounds. Freshman Ali Gibson (Woodbridge, Calif.) added 12 points including shooting a perfect 6-of-6 from the free throw line, while junior Sage Indendi (Livingston, Mont.) had 10 points.

Oregon State shot 22-of-49 (44.9 percent) from the floor, while Colorado was 15-of-52, marking a season-low 28.8 percent.

Oregon State dominated the first half, taking the lead for good at 4-2 on two Gibson free throws.

The Beavers used runs of 7-0 and 12-2 to lead 33-17 at halftime, the largest in conference play, shooting 11-of-26 from the field in the first half. Colorado was 4-of-24.

Oregon State led by as many as 27 in the second half.

Junior Thais Pinto (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) was a catalyst for the Beavers off the bench in her 18 minutes on the floor, matching her points to her rebounds with seven each. She added a pair of blocked shots, an assist and a steal.

Colorado’s Julie Seabrook led the Buffaloes with 10 points and seven rebounds.

Oregon State hosts Utah on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. to close out this weekend’s Pac-12 homestand.

 

· Colorado’s 17 first half points are the third lowest its scored this season, and its 16.7 percent first half shooting is the second lowest. The Buffaloes shot 12.0 percent at Arizona State on January 19.

· Colorado’s 16.7 percent shooting is also the lowest first half shooting percentage by any of its 20 opponents this season.

· Oregon State’s 16-point halftime lead is the most in Pac-12 play and most since Corban on December 16.

· Junior Sage Indendi is now fourth all-time for three-pointers with two in the game, 106 career.

· Junior Patricia Bright is now third all-time for blocked shots with two in the game, 72 this season.

· Oregon State’s win by 20 points is the most in conference play for the team this season, and the most since the Beavers’ win over Corban (79-47).

· Oregon State allowed the fewest points in conference play against Colorado.

· The last time Oregon State won three conference games in a row was 2008-09.
