CORVALLIS, Ore. -- The Spartans are young but optimistic as Chris McGowan returns for his 11th season as the head coach at Corvallis High School.

He has just six starters (3 offense, 3 defense) back from last year's 7-3 team. The biggest hole to fill is that of lineman Isaac Seumalo, who is starting at center for the Oregon State Beavers this season as a true freshman.

"Impossible," says McGowan about trying to replace Seumalo. "We're back to being a normal high school football team. He was maybe a once in a coaches lifetime kind of guy."

One starter returning, senior Matherin Langley, is switching from wide receiver to quarterback.

You can hear from Langley about the switch, plus more from coach McGowan by clicking on the video tabs below.

Western Oregon's longest running and hardest hitting high school football highlights show, High School Gameday, returns on Friday September 7th on KVAL-TV.
